Upon analysing the area of Balcarce, we decided to make a different wine, one that was crafted outside Argentina’s traditional winemaking circuit and that would take full advantage of very rich, lime soil conditions.

Puerta del Abra is surrounded by hills, its vineyards standing at 600 metres from the line of each mountain.

One of the area’s main characteristics is the abundant presence of limestone soil, a powerful attribute that confers unique sensory features that are reminiscent of a certain minerality—evoking, in a way the memory of the sea.

The hills, part of the Tandilia mountain range, are connected by a solid rocky base of granite and quartzite.

The project began back in 2013, with vineyard-implantation extending across 3 ha, most of which were covered by red grape varieties and Chardonnay. Today, our surface extends over 11 ha which, combined with our biodynamic winery operations, help us craft an absolutely unique product, the owner of excellent terroir expression in red, white and sparkling wines alike.

Our eight varieties

  • 4 red varieties (Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Bonarda)

  • 4 white varieties (Chardonnay, Riesling, Albariño and Gewürztraminer)

Well into our first stage, we have found our wines to be very expressive, displaying a most interesting evolution of aromatic qualities depending on their variety, with mineral notes that genuinely set them apart from other Argentinian wines.
